Meta Commentary (2024) on "The Pain of Others" directed by Penny Lane 2018

Tools used: OBS Studio, Davinci Resolve, iPhone, iPad and Windows laptop.

This was a presentation I put together for my Autoethnography course using desktop filmmaking. The assignment was to analyze Watching the Pain of Others by filmmaker Chloé Galibert-Laîné.

Chloe's film was, in many ways, a commentary and investigation on Penny Lane's film "The Pain of Others". The video above does not have much audio and was used in place of PowerPoint to practice performance based research methods. It resulted in being a major success with the class. The purpose was to argue whether her work would be considered auto-ethnographic.

Tools Used: Pencil, multimedia paper, pen, markers, and a scanner

The assignment for Autoethnography was to analyze Lucy Bergman's project Rheums consisting of 12 films. Instead of using PowerPoint, I decided to build off of Lucy's design of a home that nests her films, depicting them as windows to the outsider and rooms or rheums someone she has invited into her home. As viewers, we were given that invitation from the first video.

Tools & Resources used: Pencil, multimedia paper, pen, markers, scanner, POP by Marvel, Instagram, Pinterest, and Youtube.

Following up on the scanned images, I designed the storyboard to make a prototype of an app as the presentation format. Using the doors and windows as hotspots to guide the audience through my presentation on performativity and the culture of aesthetics.
